Weekly Announcements

Enrichment Begins this Week!!

Good Evening Van Gogh Staff and Families,
There is no school tomorrow as it is an unassigned day in this year's school calendar.  Our phenomenal Fall Festival will be here sooner than you know.  On Tuesday, there will be a Fall Festival meeting at 5:00 p.m. in the library. All parents interested in volunteering are welcome to come.  On Wednesday, the PTO will be meeting at 6:00 p.m. in the library in hopes that many of you will join us.  Don't forget to bring your beautiful smiles to school on Wednesday for Picture Day!! Thank you to our newly elected School Site/Governance Council Parent Representatives:  Allison Rekrut, Kathy Asmussen, and Steven Golby.  We appreciate your time and commitment to Van Gogh.  The first SSC/Governance Meeting is this Thursday, September 13th at 2:40 in the library.  Remember that attendance is crucial to academic success!! We will be looking at the school year every 25 days to acknowledge those students and staff who are meeting the goal! September 21st is the 25th day!  No more than 1 absence meets the goal! Stay committed and healthy!  I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Ms. Merloni

Closed Campus Update

We are working diligently to implement the “Closed Campus” policy to ensure student safety while maintaining  a positive school culture.  We appreciate your patience and understanding while we continue to work on the most effective way to implement this at our school. On Tuesday, September 4th we will open an additional gate on the corner of Titian Ave. and Goya St. that is adjacent to two crosswalks.  This would be a good choice for 1st-5th grade parents that would like to park and walk their students to the gate.  This will help ease the congestion at the Goya gate.  We are choosing this gate to encourage all pedestrians to use the crosswalks.  We will continue to maintain the Valet line on Goya Street and Van Gogh Street for parents that are dropping off.   Each classroom will be assigned two weeks in the school year for parents to volunteer for the Valet line.  This is a 20 minute morning assignment that helps support our students’ safe arrival.  Please sign up during your classroom’s designated week.  Parents that are using the Valet line, please have your children on the passenger side with all of their belongings ready to exit the car.  Be sure to drive to the drop off sign and have your student exit there.  Do not open doors until you have reached a complete stop.

There are many ways to communicate with teachers.  Many teachers use Classroom DOJO, the Remind APP, phone messages, and emails.  If you feel that you need to check-in with your child’s teacher, you are welcome to sign-in as a Visitor at dismissal and go to the classroom. Although many of our teachers are here late until the afternoon, teachers’ hours are until 2:40 p.m. If you need to conference with your teacher you will need to set up an appointment with them.

Thank you for your support,

Ms. Merloni

LOST AND FOUND

Please label your student's jackets, backpacks, and lunch boxes with their name.  This will help ensure that lost items may be found.  Our collection of unclaimed items grows rapidly and is donated to charity at the end of each month.

Peanut Policy

Please support us......Due to students with severe peanut allergies, we request that snacks and lunches stay PEANUT FREE!

We would appreciate your support in avoiding sending foods that contain peanuts or any other form of tree nuts, such as sandwich crackers filled with peanut butter, granola bars, and trail mix.

Some healthy & nutritional alternatives include: ham, roast beef, tuna, egg salad, cream cheese and jelly sandwiches, hard-boiled eggs, fruit salad, yogurt & fruit, fruit rollups, apples with caramel, hummus, celery & carrot sticks, animal crackers, popcorn, pudding or Jell-o, and Rice Krispie Treats. Thank you for your cooperation!
