Weekly Announcements

Good Evening Van Gogh Families,
As of yet, a UTLA strike is scheduled to happen tomorrow Monday, January 14, 2019.  During the strike school will remain open on a regular schedule.  All personnel will be on campus aside from teachers.  All of our teachers will be participating in the strike.  We will continue to implement our current policies and procedures to ensure that all students and staff are safe at all times.  Students will line up in the morning in their usual areas.  Students will be grouped by grade levels.  Each grade level will be under the direction of a certificated teacher and supported by teacher assistants.  Please prepare your students for the strike by talking about it with them.  Assure them that they will be safe and that this will be over soon and their teachers will return to work. Dismissal will remain the same for 1st-5th grade.  We will only be utilizing the front entrance on Van Gogh for arrival and dismissal.
During the strike there will not be any assigned homework.  Students should not bring backpacks to school.  Water bottles and lunch boxes should be clearly labeled with the student’s name and room #.  Students that do not attend school during the strike will be marked with an unexcused absence unless they are absent for illness or other excused reasons.  We are all hoping for resolution but we are prepared for our students to continue to attend school under the circumstances.  I appreciate your support.  If you have any questions please call me at (818) 360-2141 or email me at pmerloni@lausd.net. See you tomorrow at school.  Good night!

Sincerely,
Ms. Merloni

Good Evening Van Gogh Staff and Families,
This is a reminder that there is no school on Monday, January 21st in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr..  School will resume on Tuesday with our regular Tuesday dismissal at 1:20 p.m..  As of yet, UTLA and LAUSD continue to negotiate to put an end to the strike.  This week's scheduled School Site/ Governance Council meeting and the Principal's Chat will be rescheduled. All enrichment classes will also be rescheduled.  We continue to be hopeful for resolution.  We miss our teachers and families and we look forward to welcoming you back! If I get any further information, I will update you.  I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Sincerely,
Ms. Merloni

LOST AND FOUND

Please label your student's jackets, backpacks, and lunch boxes with their name.  This will help ensure that lost items may be found.  Our collection of unclaimed items grows rapidly and is donated to charity at the end of each month.

Peanut Policy

Please support us......Due to students with severe peanut allergies, we request that snacks and lunches stay PEANUT FREE!

We would appreciate your support in avoiding sending foods that contain peanuts or any other form of tree nuts, such as sandwich crackers filled with peanut butter, granola bars, and trail mix.

Some healthy & nutritional alternatives include: ham, roast beef, tuna, egg salad, cream cheese and jelly sandwiches, hard-boiled eggs, fruit salad, yogurt & fruit, fruit rollups, apples with caramel, hummus, celery & carrot sticks, animal crackers, popcorn, pudding or Jell-o, and Rice Krispie Treats. Thank you for your cooperation!
